Use their birth announcement instead
of a photo or mosaic their name and birth date.
-
Incorporate items that
have special meaning to them such as a piece of fabric from their first
blanket or a special token given to them.
-
Use
special themes and colors to express each child's personality.
-
This idea is great for older children
as well as they begin to fill the box with their childhood memories.
-
Or even for grandparents who wish to
leave something in it to find when the grandkids visit.

Step one: Paint the box. Sand down wooden box and paint
with base color, here we used Folk Art Acrylic Paint in Whicker White by
Plaid. Apply at least two coats
and let stand to dry approximately 2 hours.
Step two: Paint all other pieces to
be attached to the box. We used wooden ball feet and flat wood stars.
Three small white stars on top and one larger blue star along with two smaller
stars for the handle. Paint the bun feet in white with polka dots of blue
and the side of the box with pink stripes. Let dry and spray
shellac each piece. You will assemble all of it later.
Step three: Glue down frame. Mark off area where frame
will go by measuring middle point. Or for added interest, kitty-corner
the frame in a corner and any other object in the opposite corner. Glue
in place and let dry completely.*
* See other "bright ideas" for placement and objects.

|
Step four: Practice Placement of Top. Arrange
all pieces of glass, 3 wooden stars around the frame.
Step five: Keeping all pieces in place, one by one with a small amount of craft
glue start gluing each piece of mosaic down along with any additional pieces. On ours we
also
randomly placed three white wooden stars. Let dry for 20 minutes or
until hard.

Now your ready to give the most thoughtful gift at the baby shower.
Start by filling it with one of our keepsake silver
gifts to last lifetime!
|
Step six: Mix the mosaic "mud" and start applying
to the top of the box in random patterns to fill in all area between the
tiles. (Follow directs on box of grout.) Usually drying about 10-15
minutes then wiping off excess grout with a damp sponges. Continue until
all grout is removed from top of tiles. Once dry, polish tiles with a
soft cloth.
|

Step
seven: Glue on the extras. Start craft gluing on your
glass beads on the side of the box, working one side at a time and
allowing it to dry in between. Place four on the top as well for the
frame. Make the box knob by gluing one large star (blue) and two smaller
stars (white) together, add a green bead on the end. Glue on the tassel.
Step eight: Glue on bun feet. Let dry. Attach hinges for support. Insert your
picture or your gift message in the frame.
